A large, edible caprifig with fair flavor. Pyriform with a distinct neck. Adapted in northern California and the Northwest. Not so good in the South. (004) (006) Yellow when ripe, quite sweet, and a heavy bearer. Produces one large crop in July and August. Good fresh or dried. Good in cool mountain or coastal climates. (002) Leaf: base subcordate; mostly 5 lobes. Flavor is fair, but not memorable. Bears a heavy crop of profichi (early fruit) , but very few mammoni and mamme. (013) Seemed tender at first, but seems to have adapted to the climatic vagaries of south Georgia. (001c) As of October 2008, I am happy to report some of the following results: Second most productive is the Caprifig "Gillette" which is perhaps the most reliable variety around Puget Sound in that when mature, it does not miss a year of production.
