MORE INFO ABOUT GRAFTING

A simple chip-bud is one way of grafting. This should be done when the rootstock is actively growing.
Close up. The "chip" of scion was shaped to match the "notch" made in the rootstock, the chip was inserted, wrapped with parafilm to prevent drying out, and wrapped with nursery tape to keep them in good contact until they heal together. After a few weeks of healing together, the bud will begin to sprout.
Close up. The "chip" has healed in and growing well.
After about 6 months.
Growing well. You may need to support the new growth with a stake. the weight of the new growth may cause it to break off at the graft point until it is sufficiently grown together.
Wedge grafting also works well. Close up of the graft after healing together.
After a couple months.
About 6 months later.
