FIGS 4 FUN

MORE INFO ABOUT SPLITTING

The popular theory is that overwatering during ripening is the culprit. However, I like to think that I am pretty consistent in my cultural practices from year to year and tree to tree, yet some years and some trees produce fruit that is far more prone to splitting. My Vista Mission has never, ever had a split fig, but when grown in New Jersey, it definitely had a problem. Splitting is reported to be a definite problem where the fig ripening season coincides with heavy summer rains.
