PANACHEE
SYN: PANACHE, STRIPED TIGER, TIGER, VARIEGATO, JASPEE LIMONE, MARBLED LIMONE, PLUME
DESCRIPTION

A chimera which produces green fruit with yellow stripes and strawberry pulp. Pyriform with prominent neck. Mealy texture. Leaf: not variegated. Aficionados in California say it can produce excellent, fresh fruit. In the South its flavor is mediocre. (001a) (004) (006) (013) Medium size striking yellow with green striped figs have amber-pink delicious flesh. Rich gourmet super sweet flavor rates it as one of the best. Moderately late ripening and needs a long warm growing season for a full and abundant crop. Attractive branches have yellow striping to match the figs. (1158)

PANANAS PURPLE
DESCRIPTION
This is an unidentified fig that was collected in Chambersburg, PA. This fig was collected by the owner from a person living somewhere on the Virginia Coast. The fig has performed very well, growing in a small space between the parking lot and the south facing wall. It is heavily pruned and wrapped every year and re-grows vigorously to about 14 or so feet tall. For him, it bears almost continuously from August till frost. It is a good tasting fig and has been used in ice-cream, as a dried fig and of course as a fresh fig. This fig tree is also growing in my yard in northeast Kansas. With proper winter protection, it is fairly productive. (1001)

It was explained to me that President Nixon returned from his trip to China in the 1980s after having been given a bundle of fig cuttings. These were subsequently distributed to Agricultural Extension offices around the country. They survived and have been well distributed in the Phoenix, AZ area, and presumably in other locations, as well. They are also know by a couple of synonyms in the Phoenix area. (910)
