AGRIGENTO
DESCRIPTION
You're right about Atreano. Here, it is consistent but needs to ripen well to appreciate any flavor. There are better figs and I think the Agrigento is one of them. Personally, I use Kadota as the benchmark for flavor and sweetness I expect in a white fig. The one in the photo[s] is smaller than the average for the variety. Most of them come close to the size of Atreano in comparison. As you can see by the leaves, it is very sensitive to FMV. The original cuttings were given to me by Hanc [Mathies] when he sent me his Atreano. IMHO, I thought the flavor was better than Atreano. Atreano really needs to ripen fully to appreciate any flavor from it. Agrigento isn't that way. (904)

ANACAPA
DESCRIPTION
A member of the Santa Barbara Horticultural Society mentioned that she had been watching a fig tree grow out of the trunk of a Butia Palm for the last 15 years here in town starting at the smallest what she assumed was a seedling size into a large tree that now entwines the palm in a most astonishing way. She states it is probably a seedling of a Mission fig but it is not purple black skinned, it can be bigger by 1/3 than a Mission, less dense and depth of flavor but more luscious and honey like. The flesh is not deep red but more like a Brown Turkey flesh color but not a Brown Turkey. It gets 2 crops a year if happy. (AS)

DESCRIPTION
A must-have for any fig collector, Atreano is a robust, fast growing fig that produces tasty clusters of light green figs with a sweet, pink interior. Figs are larger than Alma or Italian Golden, smaller than Conadria and hold on well when ripe. We have not tested this fig for winter hardiness, so northern growers should plan to protect well or grow in containers. (016)
