BATTAGLIA GREEN
SYN: SANDY'S STRAWBERRY VERTE DESCRIPTION
This is a delightful green fig that was brought to our attention by my friend, Sandy Battaglia. The hardy tree bears large numbers of brilliant green figs. Each fig has a deep maroon interior and a wonderful flavor. Our closest ID is to the "Strawberry Verte" variety, although we think it may be superior in flavor. This fig has the darkest and richest interior of any of the green/yellow summer figs. The fruits are medium-sized and hold up excellently to rain and humidity. (016)

BLACK OF BORDEAUX
SYN: VERDONE, PRECOCE DE RONDE BORDEAUX
DESCRIPTION

Comes to us from the Southwest with its beautiful dark brown color and it is a strong tree of whose leaves are usually large with 5 very deep lobes. It is interesting because of tits precocite as an autumn fig from the beginning of August and its extraordinary gustative quality, but is really too small for business use. Bordeaux is a French region which grows many varieties of figs. Condit's Bordeaux is usually and appropriately called Negronne in Bordeaux (after the town of Negronne which is apparently its place of origin). BOURJASSOTTE NOIRE
DESCRIPTION
It comes to us from North Africa but was welcomed in our parts of the country not since long time because it is already quoted by Pliny. A strong tree with very big light green leaves, type 5 lobes, averagely deep. Very sensitive to the pourridie and to the nematodes (in irrigated ground), sensitive to the mosaic virus which discolors and deforms the leaves, as well as to the fruit fly and psyllids of the fig tree. This produces [one crop of] autumn figs which have a rather thick black purple skin. It survives very well during transport but bursts easily after rains and thunderstorms and is also sensitive to the wind. It is also cultivated in Italy, Spain and Portugal. The characteristic size of the leaves makes it a beautiful ornamental tree. [Translated from French] (046 ) A vigorous grower. (910)DT Saw a note somewhere that Bourjassotte Noire was the same as Violet Soleis. (910)

I still have to research this further, but I think this is the fig from cuttings VS sent me about 2005. If so, it came from Columbia, Maryland labeled as a Brown Turkey from Warren Turner. He reportedly got it from the daughter of WW2 veteran returning from Europe in 1943.The fig is still alive and it produces thousands of figs every year, with no care whatsoever. It was never protected from cold and it has never died. (910)

BYADI
SYN: FALAHI
DESCRIPTION
Grasovsky and Weitz also described Byadi in their 1932 work, Fig-growing in Palestine. It is also known as Falahi. According Condit, Byadi trees tend to be small and not very productive. The villagers from the Galilee tell Daniel that the Byadi is very productive. Gravsovsky and Weit[z] say it is one of the most productive varieties in the region. The fruit is sweet and has small seeds and few of them. Mainly used for drying. Even today Byadi is grown extensively by the villagers in the Lower Galilee and during end of August and all of September you can buy Byadi figs in the roadside stands in small baskets. They are good for fresh use and really excellent for jam preparation. It is also good for drying and is the main variety around Gush Halav ( Gish ) where the farmers dry them to paste form. The Byadi main crop is plentiful, but it only gives a very few brebas. (006f)
